Moneen - The Theory of Harmonial Value
This is a band that would fit right into the Deep Elm label quite nicely. Moneen has been around since 1999 and has already got quite a fanbase started. The four-piece comes our way from Toronto but have been touring quite extensively. The sound that Moneen does so nicely is a style of aggressive melodic pop (read: emo). I have heard complaints about this album that it doesn’t come close to capturing Moneen’s intense live show. I guess I have an advantage here in that I have never seen them live. This proves to be very beneficial because I instantly fell in love with this album. The Theory of Harmonial Value has some clunky song titles like “The Start To This May be the End To Another but the musicianship is very crafty and original. The whole intent with Theory is to present a punk album by a scientist named Dr. Lozlo Pronowski and the liner notes reflect that with all sorts of algebra equations mixed in with the lyrics. If you like some of the stuff that has been happening with Deep Elm lately then you will eat up what Moneen have to offer. Taste their meaty guitar hooks and their clever lyrics.
