Scotland’s Boards of Canada almost instantly became a cult status when they dropped the awesome Music Has The Right to Children. Automatically the band was being referred to in such statements as “Group x is trying to sound like Boards of Canada. Yes, they became a group to be copied. Quite a status in the often-duplicated world of Electronica. Geogaddi is their proper follow-up to Children with In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country EP and 1999’s Peel Sessions in between. This album that Michael Sandison and Marcus Eoin have come up with is a little bit different and more trying than Children. The tone is a little more reflective and somber but it still provides a great soundtrack to work to, as there are no vocals (save Leslie Nielson doing some chemistry narration on “Sunshine Recorder). Boards tend to lean a little more on the experimental side of things but they never border on the annoying like their label-mate Aphex Twin. These boys are definitely looking ahead and Geogaddi is the album to keep them out front of the pack. It is very rare when groups this talented grace the shelves and it’s always a pleasure when new albums appear.
