It seems as though Hydra Head has found their calling. They are becoming the new home to revolutionary black metal artists. They just scooped up Xasthur and now they bring us Heresi, the one man black metal act to end all others. Damn, Psalm II is one pummeling album that hardly lets up for all of it's 30 minutes. The best part about Heresi is the vocal delivery. While I can't make out a word (it is sung in his native tongue of Swedish) it is scary as hell. I have no idea how one man can do this for an entire album without some effects of some sort. But, Heresi pulls it off. The next best thing about this album is the grueling guitars. It really comes to a head on the last title track. Guitars are driving me insane after that guttural delivery with the guitar. And last but not least are the drums. They just don't give up either. If you make it out alive after the first track, "Liotte" then you might just make it through the 30 minutes of chaos. Psalm II is one treat that I wasn't expecting. If you are just getting into the growing black metal world I would highly recommend Heresi. It is a good demonstration on some of the cool things going on right now.
