Sevendust - Best Of (chapter One 1997-2004)
I remember when Sevendust's hammering self-titled debut hit me. I was like nothing I had ever heard. And the interesting thing is that their sound has been ripped off by pretty much every radio metal band out there and Sevendust has never got the respect they deserve. I still say that the band is as good, if not better, than Living Colour. The guys are able to come up with a heavy groove and go with it. Lajon Witherspoon's dexterous vocals are demonstrated on their first Best Of compilation. The 16 tracks here give an outsider a great view of what the band sounds like. There are a nice smattering of songs from all of their albums. Some of my favorite tracks include "Black", "Denial", "Waffle", "Praise", and even the mellower "Angel's Son" sticks out as one of their better tracks. If you are curious about Sevendust, this Best Of will give you a clear view of what the metal band is all about. If you are a fan, you might be able to downsize your collection with this. You might miss out on a few really great tracks like "Speak" but we'll let you make the decision. And there are 4 so-called bonus tracks. Most of them B-sides that have hardly seen the light of day. The one that is almost worth the whole price of the CD is their killer version of Alice Cooper's "School's Out". It's the heaviest I've heard this track. This compilation includes an enhanced portion with a video for "Praise".
