Hot Water Music is one of the most original bands to come along in a long time. Caution is their second album on Epitaph but they definitely aren’t new to the scene. Magnet Magazine claimed that they are “the best punk band on the planet and I would have to agree with that. For now. Every once and a while a band comes onto the scene that sounds completely original and that’s what Hot Water Music is. Sure, they do sound like the odd band but for the most part the way their songs are constructed and written is really cutting edge. I think this has a lot to do with the fact that they have two vocalists. Other bands have tried and succeeded (Fugazi) but this is not an easy thing to do and still keep a consistent sound. Chuck Ragan and Chris Wollard make it sound so easy. The band is tight as a drum and their melodies are superb. Their songs don’t end up sounding all the same either, unlike a lot of punk bands today. Caution takes off from A Flight and a Crash showing just what Hot Water Music is capable of. There is so much depth to this band that it takes several listens to an album to reveal their many layers.
