There is something magical about the sound of Minus Story. On the surface they sound like a bunch of geeks trying to rock out but once you dive into their music a little deeper, you start to see charm and skill creep out. The songs are a little on the lengthy side, most between 4 and 5 minutes but that seems to work for these psychedelic songs. The tracks flow in and out, sometimes getting quite loud, but for the most part, fairly restrained. If No Rest For Ghosts is your first foray into the world of Minus Story then you are greeted with the gentle piano intro of "I Was Hit", a track that sounds a little too much like Grandaddy. There is going to be a lot of Olivia Tremor Control comparisons being thrown out as well. That is due to the band's ability to have the sounds changing up on every song. There are times when you feel like you are swirling around in a sea of sounds but Andy Byer's voice is common enough to keep you grounded. The production is perfect for the mix of pop and psychedelia that Minus Story does so well. No Rest For Ghosts is one of those grand albums that get better as you get more familiar with it.
