Clearlake - Amber
With one of the founding members, Sam Hewitt, leaving the folds of Clearlake one can only wonder what Amber was going to sound like. The band was riding high on critical acclaim for Cedars but it seemed like Sam wasn't ready for the next step. No worries though because Amber has turned out just peachy. I would even guess that Amber is one of the better albums to come out of the UK this year. The band is refined and seems like the members are enjoying the recording process. Songs like "Finally Free" have that Spiritualized vibe going on but manage to keep the spacey feel from taking over the entire album. Production is thick but really works for the band's sound. The band has achieved one of those albums that get better with every listen. I wasn't planning on loving Amber, it just kind of kept creeping up on me. Listen to the title track to be won over. I believe that "It's Getting Light Outside" is one of the latest singles. It comes across a little like Coldplay but the difference with Clearlake is that they have more of an edge. Do yourself a favor and check out Amber.
