The highlight of this gift of rare live performances by the late great minuteman d.boon is from a solo show in 1984, four songs of which are included in this 33 song collection. His fragile but righteous vocals and brittle guitar on "Plight" are eerie and brilliant, as if he is channeling Woody and Dylan at the same time. His versions of "Don't Look Now" and "Corona" from the same show back up the praise. If you think I'm overdoing it, buy this and prove me wrong. The bulk of the disc is a series of jams with childhood friends Crane and Richard Berrick between 1984-85, both of whom produced this with help from Mike Watt. There is also a brief taste of a 1985 minutemen show, with a substitute drummer. While that hinders the groove, it is still glorious to hear sharp, pissed off versions of "Themselves", "#1 Hit Song" and " History Lesson-Part II", the latter a song that is impossible to hear dry-eyed, and was even when Boon was alive. Coming on the heels of the We Jam Econo DVD, it is a great time to remember what the minutemen gave us, and how much they are missed. You need this.
