Not too long after the mass-distribution of Seven's Travel through Epitaph, a lot of Atmosphere fans were confused and very interested to see what "You Can't Imagine How Much Fun We're Having" brought. Well... the same 'ole Sean Daley was back and this time his rhymes less about his short-cummings and more directed towards society.
Songs like "Panic Attack (The P.A.)" and samples riddled throughout the release had quip of wisdom about purifying ourselves away from the meddles of human evolution. "Do you call yourself a patient or junkie, the only thing that separates is who takes your money". Soon to follow that lyric, Slug kick a rhyme that outruns the beat. Then a sobering sample, "This country spends a hundred billion dollars a year... on getting high". A variety of vocal samples drive home the point, and Atmosphere is at it again. Other tracks have that signature Soul and Slug. "Say Hey There (Gotta Go To Mexico)" and "Hockey Hair (You Can't Imagine How Much Fun We're Having)" have backbone piano tone and beat and keep the flow going well.
For the best track and a tricked up beat, go to the final track,"Little Man (I Love You)". A phenomenal lyrical message is the last track that includes stories to his son and his father. In the end, like most releases, Slug saves his best introspect for himself.
"Dear Sean
What's goin' on?
Not much to say
Just checkin' in wit'cha trying to see what's wrong today
I know there's gotta be something kickin' your bruises
How's the love? How's the music? How's the self-abusiveness?"
"Watch Out (Hey You)" has an unforgettable beat and vocal confidence far and above most of his tracks. He uses this track to share some of his early- on influence and even takes this chance to come back at his critical fellow rappers. "what the f*ck you thinking, you frustrated or something, did you have a bad week man? You got issues I feel sorry for you, yo sh*tting on me is soo 2002... "Whoever put your record out, must've needed write-offs." Another track that cuts fast and hard is "Bam (Eventually Suddenly)" which features a slightly distorted mic, blistering Daley and G.L.U. sample transition. "Smart Went Crazy (The Beauty Pill)" fevers upon a guitar sample which would become more prevalent in albums to come.
Probably one of the most radio ready tracks was "Pour Me Another (Another Poor Me)", which had a rustic pianist core and a little bit of Atmosphere's several styles. Absolutely the most controversial track here and one of the most in his career is "That Night (Sunshine Blues)". Forget the sick beat and flow "It's about a balloon that got punctured". This track tells the tale/story of a young teen who is raped at an Atmosphere concert in Albuquerque, New Mexico. A quiet silence as the next track..."Get Fly (What If Jesus Forgot To Put You On The Guestlist?)" begins. Again, a piano induced beat, accompanied by a church-like-choir sound, a lyrical content, fast and forward and an outro that
"I got a little breath left, let's suffocate it
Point at the epiphanies and call 'em all drug related
The time I spent with my life on bent
Trying to find the friends inside my head
Must have disengaged every phase and stage
Of of my I'm coming, I'm coming, I'm coming of age"
Without a doubt, one of the most upbeat and fun releases of the Atmosphere collection, as usual Ant is on top of his game for the full 50 minutes and there are very few weak spokes on this release. A must pick up for those familiar with Atmosphere's work.
