Ratatat - Classics
With a band name like Ratatat I envision a metal band. Instead we are given one of the year's finest electronic sophomore albums. The duo that consists of Mike Stroud and Evan Mast and they come from Brooklyn to bring us this fairly organic blend of electronic music and pop. It is instrumental making it a great CD for background music. There is nothing completely memorable on Classics but I don't think that's what Ratatat is after. Instead they would rather just float along and keep you in check for the ride without really grabbing you. It's the kind of music that you notice new things upon each listen. I wouldn't highly recommend Classics because I feel there are so many great instrumental electronic acts along this vein out there. I don't think Ratatat are bringing anything new to the table with this release.
