Brothers Cullen and Jason Hendrix, together with bassist Jason Richards, sure know how to make a barbaric yawp. Wires is an epic wash of noise, stark power chords, and post-punk jitters, all delivered in service of small deranged impressions of people just trying to make a least part of the day honest. From the brutal groove of “Drunk Under Electrics” and “Lotus Eater”, to the electronic “Bottom of This Town”, The North Atlantic dig their claws in deep no matter the mood of the tune. Tempo shifts create a tension, as the set moves from the chugging “Street Sweepers” to the sludgy “Atmosphere vs. The Dogs of Dawn” from the almost pop of “Scientist Girl” to the unhinged “Ministry of Helicopters.” Wires in the Walls is mighty mighty, on many levels, and the North Atlantic is a band that aims for the throat, and clamps right down every time.
