108 have an audacious concept here on Creation...a double record of progressive thrash This set is a compilation of 108’s entire recorded output, dating from 1992. Hardcore with a distinct spiritual accent, this is neither preachy nor reactionary. Former by bassist Vic Dicara (“Vraja Kishor Dada) as an outlet for his growing Hindu beliefs, and surrounded by like minded seekers, 108 was one of the most adventurous hardcore bands of the 90’s; this comp, a collection of their three full-lengths and one EP, is a monumental record of what power can be wrought from spiritually attuned music. This ain’t no Stryper Though the topics range from the afterlife (“Deathbed”) Vegetarianism (“Killer of the Soul”) and modern anxiety (“Panic”), the band is brutally honest, lyrically and musically, witnessing to their own truth, but not ramming it down the listener’s throat. What is rammed down our throat is the power of conviction, and how hardcore, when done right, is always the savior of rock & roll. Recommended if you like: Bad Brains, Cro-Mags, Corrosion of Conformity
