Husker Du - Warehouse: Songs And Stories
There are usually two types of Husker Du fans, the one's that like the earlier less produced and louder material (SST years) and then there are the fans that like their later more polished and pop leaning material. I tend to lean a little more towards their later career material but I might be biased by citing Candy Apple Grey as my introduction to the band. While that album still may stand as my favorite, it is very depressing. Warehouse: Songs and Stories ends up being much brighter even though it was the album of their destruction. It was apparent that Mould and Hart were having conflict and on this album it really worked to their advantage. The two different songwriters were able to come up with some very diverse songs. Some amazing moments like "Up In The Air" showed what Mould was capable of. And Warehouse undoubtedly contains the best Grant Hart songs he ever wrote. He finally found his voice and his creativity. See "She Floated Away" for one fine example. This year (2006) I was lucky enough to catch both Bob Mould and Grant Hart in separate (of course) solo shows. They were both fun and while Bob had a little more material to choose from (both solo and Sugar) he edged Grant out as my favorite.
