Philly metalcore power trio Starkweather seems to come up a lot when bands in the same genre talk about who's hot. For the uninitiated, Croatoan ought to shed some light on all the props. Formed in 1990, this is only their third release, but this is no lazy band. They've toured constantly and show up on a ton of comps, and that amount of playing to together and attention to detail is what makes this a killer release. The rhythm section is tight, esp. of " Bitterfrost" and "Hushabye: Goodnight", the latter of which also features genre-bending sonic jams that can only come a band that trusts its instincts. "Machine Rhythm Confessional" is another tune that will satisfy headbangers as well as progressive fans. Starkweather is a band that bludgeon as well as explore, and Croatoan is a must for those who missed their first two releases.
