The Applicators are five Texas ladies with guts and swagger, and lots of references to being punk punk punk. Well, are they? Kind of, in a 21st Century pop version of it. They kinda sound like Romeo Void or the Go-Go's when they were in that porn flick. Actually, "My Weapon " would be a highlight of the Repo Man soundtrack, while "Bad Infection" or "I Need You" sound about as threatening as one of those bands almost invited to one of those endless Sweet 16 parties on MTV. Tunes like "I Know the Truth" and "Obvious" rock hard and joyous, while "New Realization" makes me wish this was an EP, not an 12 song marathon. There is enough here for a great, fun, 6 song record. By the time this was over though, I got the joke, and knew the chords, but I wasn't convinced they were as all that as they claim over and over. That puts them in the same category with hundreds of other bands, despite the flashes of true cool.. What is coming next is beyond me.
