Tommy Walter had a promising career with a band called the Eels with fellow songwriter E but decided that he had more to offer on his own. Tommy chose the name Abandoned Pools to record under and recorded an album called Humanistic in 2001 with little fanfare. He's back and armed to the teeth with a recording contract with the Universal label and is releasing an album called Armed To The Teeth. With one quick listen you might just throw Abandoned Pools to the wolves thinking that this is mediocre AOR fare. But upon closer listen you start to see the complexities of Walter's music reach through. He manages to layer the easy going music quite easily and the harmonies and vocals are very easy going and non-abrasive. It's the sort of music that should be on the radio, in a perfect world, instead of the Nickleback shit. It's clever music, while not up everyone's alley. It does require repeat listens and if you can get by that, you are probably sold. I think for Abandoned Pools next act he may need to take some risks.
