Open Season starts out with a piano solo called "One Evening", starting the album off with a sombre note. This is kept up with an acoustic performance of the Bee Gees' "Inside + Out" with an Apostle of Hustle credit given. But then as you look a little closer at the track listing you will find "Mushaboom" listed not twice, not three times but four different versions. So basically Open Season turns into a "Mushaboom" contest for the remixers. Of course they are going to choose this huge hit for Feist because they want the exposure. The first version has a Mocky credit given to it and it is solid but I would have to say that the K-os Remix takes the prize. It's pretty cool with the beatbox beat leading the way and some hip hop thrown in for good measure. The Postal Service option gets a close second with Ben Gibbard providing a clever backup vocal. Another brilliant remix is the "Lonely Lonely" with a Frisbee'd tag. It's just barely recognizable and yet very accessible. Open Season is a nice companion to Let It Die. I'm not sure how necessary it is but it does provide a different view of what Feist's vocals can do and sit beside.
