It seems as though Putumayo is having a lot of luck turning on a new generation to world music with their Playground series. French Playground is the next one in the series and as the title suggests the music is all of French heritage. I have a three year old and this wasn't quite focused to his age group (read: not quite "fun" enough) but I could see it appealing to a slightly older age group, 5-10 and much much older. I totally enjoyed it. The music on French Playground is comprised of artists I have never been exposed to, a good sign when all the songs can still be that strong. The music isn't all from France. It is made up by artists from Quebec, Africa and The Caribbean as well. A nice feature of this album is that all the French lyrics have been translated in the colorful booklet that comes with it. A good tool for learning French. The compilation is solid and all tracks present French in a different light.
