Mellowdrone has been around for a while but it is only now that Jonathan Bates has got his shit together to release a full-length album. I actual fact, Box is a collection of everything Mellowdrone has done up to this point. That said album is Box and it is a fine showcase of some decent songwriting and arrangements. It is very none abrasive and quite easy to listen to. Bates voice is very gentle and man can he sing. You might even compare him to the gentler side of Thom Yorke. The songs are well produced and although not all that original they still go down quite easy. Songs like "Bone Marrow" are perfect for mass consumption. I found a few of the songs to be slightly annoying but primarily Box is a decent album that most pop loving fans should at least check out.
