RecommendFormer One Candle Power vocalist and Montreal hero Christina Frances returns with a new band called Darling Arms, and with the aid of singer/guitarist Shelby Cinca (Frodus) has created a brooding but hopeful debut EP. Violins and piano often enrich the minimal guitar work and passionate vocals. "the Hero smolders with Cat-like power, while "concept Car" shows an odd poetic eye that is all her own. "A Fish Hook, A Cat Eye" features a deliberate, halting personal exploration that ought to dug into deeper on future releases. This is a record full of near-misses and almost-greatness. That she has it in her to reach that greatness is no joke, and her next release ought to bring her closer to that mountain.
