When the Promise Ring and the Dismemberment Plan suffered their ill-fated demise there was bound to be a phoenix rising from the ashes. It happened in the form of Maritime, a new band fronted by ex-Ringer Davey von Bohlen. What we end up with is a pure pop wonderment that is very accessible. There are no angular Dismemberment Plan songs (probably due to just having their ex-bass player Eric Axelson who more recently left the group), instead we are presented with some beautiful and super catchy pop music. We, The Vehicles is Maritime's sophomore release and the one that is ready for mass consumption. The album is very bright with some bouncy songs, "We Don't Think, We Know", that really make you feel good. Not all are super sunny but the overall tone to Vehicles is an uplifting one. There isn't really a lot of similarity to The Promise Ring. The only familiarity is Davey's vocals, which have matured very nicely. What you have to think of is a ex-emo band shedding all of the preconceptions. A band rising and maturing into an almost perfect sunny pop band. We, The Vehicles should be considered a success, almost a perfect pop album.
