Songs: Ohia frontman Jason Molina has achieved the rare feat of creating two classic bands at virtually the same time. This has allowed him to extend his vision as well as proclaim it. Recorded in several studios ranging from Sound of Music in Richmond to the famed sun studios in Memphis, and with Steve Albini at the production controls, this record marks a return to the dark, personal songs the Molina made famous with Songs: Ohia. Also included are demos from a lost solo project, which was tentatively called Shohola. There is nothing but highlights here. "Don't Fade on Me", "Montgomery" and " Lonesome Valley" gently rock with memory, regret and hope; "The Old Horizon" and "Talk to Me Devil, Again" are the kind of brooding interior epics that place Molina in the big leagues.
