Now there is another wacko band that is calling Oklahoma home. The Evangelicals are a great psych pop band that should get a lot of praise for their debut album So Gone. Now if you don't have patience then So Gone might be a tough listen for you. I suggest you skip to the last track, "The Water Is Warm", a pure and gentle pop song that shows you just what Evangelicals are capable of. The reason I say this is that the first song, "A Mouthful Of Skeletons" is a crazy sample crazy track that does little to enhance the listening experience. I would guess that a lot of potential fans would get scared off here. And then "Another Day (And Your Still Knocked Out)" is the loudest track of the set. There are even some moments that sound like Josh Jones is channelling Jeff Buckley from the grave. One of those strongest moment is the absolutely glorious "My Headache", a song that moves along fairly slowly but has enough harmonies and such that almost drive you mad. What's even more maddening is that they follow such an awesome song up with a simple tape loop and sampling which they simply call "Into The Woods". There is nothing wrong with it but it doesn't seem to fit next to "My Headache" very easily. That's the most interesting thing about Evangelicals, they don't really follow convention and yet write amazing pop songs. This equates to great critical acclaim and poor record sales. This critic give So Gone great acclaim as well.
