The Dissociatives, a collaboration between remix maven Paul Mac and former Silverchair god Daniel Johns is a jagged, moody record full of aural highlights. Sonic image-making is the aim here, and is fueled by Mac's lush multi-track confections and John's own pop experiments, along with his usual odd, hermetic lyrical preoccupations. "We're Much Preferred Customers" sounds like the kind of song that would be Number One in the nation this week, if we lived in a nation that cared about good pop. "Somewhere Down The Barrel" is a mind-blowing Pet Sounds/The Wall hybrid of hope and future mischief. "Lifting The Veil From the Veil" is what Nick Drake would have written if he ever had a good day. You get the idea. This records builds off and adds inspiring new touches to both past influences and the past work of the collaborators. Let's make up our own nation, and push this to the top of the charts.
