Alan Jourgenson returns with more rage and brutal noise since the early 90's masterpiece Psalm 69. Most of the bile, as with that classic, is aimed at the present state and leadership of American politics; a Bush in the White House seems to bring out the best in him. "Ass Clown" and "Lies Lies Lies" address the twisted state of official actions; The title track uses the President's own words, albeit cleverly altered, to convict him. "Gangreen" takes a stab at military conformity, with mixed results; the soldiers are victims too. All this is delivered with the industrial grind of Ministry's guitar and sampling attack. While Jourgenson breaks no new ground, he doesn't have to: his pet peeves continue to play the same old evil games. He is right there to call them on it.

I've not heard much Ministry, admitedly, but this album is more than worthy of acclaim. Jourgenson is well-known in metal circles for more or less single-handedly creating the genre of industrial metal. While enjoying such a long and storied career often forces bands to recycle previous albums repeatedly, luckily for Ministry fans "Rio Grande Blood" offers up just the right balance of familiarity and variety. Recommended to all fans of extreme heavy music. This is the soundtrack to a certain bloody conflict in a certain middle-eastern country...
