Raw and rough experiments on guitar, piano and trumpet from Takashi Wada, whose first record was more straight ahead ambient and electronic. No laptop here, just stunning vision. Guitar ("Twilight Zone") and piano ("Lost Land") add a rich drone to the repertoire; deeper explorations ("pilot fish," "the old man looks at the window") show tremendous sonic growth from Wada's debut. Meditative but sly, Wada creates his own universe, and shows enough rough edges around the contemplation to make it interesting. This is accomplished best of all by the use of real instruments, which help give a subtle, flawed humanity to the beauty. But it is beautiful, and a great mix of minimalism with maximum intent. Wada has opened up new paths for himself and for the listener, with his next record, hopefully, pointing the way of entry.
