Pure Mania is an essential album that not only belongs in every punk collection but it should also be in every rock collection as well. The Vibrators rose up during the 70s punk movement to become one of the longest running punk bands of that era. Pure Mania was the groups debut album and while they got lumped into the punk category, in all reality their music was closer to a pop sound than the anarchy infused UK movement of the time. You could say a band like The Futureheads where as influenced as much by The Vibrators as The Gang Of Four. Vibrators songs are short and sweet and rarely make it much over the 3 minute mark. Songs such as the "Keep It Clean" or the darker "Baby Baby" show you just what this band was all about. The chart topper "London Girls" really captures the sound of the Vibrators.
While the band kept going for another couple of decades it's this debut that you need. It stands up all alone securing The Vibrators a place in the punk hall of fame. Oh yeah, they are still going too if you want to catch a classic punk band a little past their prime.
