The first comp that gives you a pretty picture of the cauldron of street styles currently kicking it in Nigeria, Stori Plenti offers grooves for the mind and the head. Terry tha Rapman starts it off with "I am a Nigerian", an instant classic take on Eminem and racism. Weird MC's "ljoya" and Faze's "Faze Alone" add salsa and reggae highlights to their raps, while Eedris Abdulkareem ("Letter To The President") and African China ("Mr. President") strongly address current issues.
Also of note are Nutty & Wharfy, whose dancehall-hip-hop hybrid represents the ghetto of Ajegunle, known as the Kingston of Nigeria. In the last ten years, so many great records have come out documenting African music, from the several volume set of Ethiopian pop, funk from Ghana; this adds to the much needed library of classic continental sounds.
