Originally intended as a lark during hiatus by members of All and Armchair Martian, Drag the River stands on its own as solid peek into loneliness and small hopes that loom large when there is little else to dream. "Beautiful & Damned" and "tired & fired" struggle with that hope and whether or not it makes sense. But all is not for brooding. "Amazing G." and "Paradise Grounded" lay the groundwork for better days. You won't find more ambivalence wrestled with the same song as often as here (other either/or songs include "the cause & the cure" and "Fire & Flood."), but Drag The River usually tip their scale on the bright side, even when they "can't wait/ to kiss your dirty mouth." The songs on It's Crazy swing with the feeling of being oddly blessed, which they pass on to the listener with their quite but firm alt-country drone.
