Gomez has always been one of my favorite exports from the UK. There is something about their combined singing and songwriting that sets them apart from their contemporaries. Gomez is what I would like to listen to on the radio if I listened to the radio. How We Operate is the first studio album since their new deal with Dave Matthew's ATO label and given time it could become one of my favorite too. The album was produced by Gil Norton and this just might be the reason that How We Operate stands out from the other four studio albums. There are little riffs and harmonies in pretty much all the songs that make Gomez's charm stand out. The album opens with the gentle "Notice" and slowly builds up on the next track, "See The World". Split The Difference was a killer album but it didn't quite have the dynamics that How We Operate does. And please tell me, who wouldn't love to hear "Hamoa Beach" on the radio? Ben Ottewell's scratchy voice is a nice alternative to Ian Ball's and Tom Gray's who sometimes sound too alike. I still maintain that bands that feature multiple (talented) vocalists are some of the best pop bands. It's damn catchy, as are most of the songs on this album. If you haven't checked into Gomez for a while I think now is the time. How We Operate is a great album that would appeal to so many people.
