Korean cellist Okkyung Lee has been collaborating with some of the best in American avant-garde music, particularly Thurston Moore. Nihm is a sampling of her work with John Zorn. One of the tracks is called "That Undeniable Empty Feeling;" consistently she fills that space with beauty and long mournful lines that can't be described as anything other than brilliant. Her instrument builds conflict and resolution solo and through its dance with the percussion. Lee sets a contemplative mood, and then expands it with a flourish. Okkyung's work is already visionary, and her daring ought to deepen that vision.
