Mark Gergis has dug for his sounds. His work with Negativland, Mono Pause and as collector of rare sounds for the best label in the world, Sublime Frequencies, show him to have a knack for hearing and finding, music and playing it where it lies. Mood Noose is a set of solo work with Mark performing as Porest and it mines the aging cassettes, stolen environmental noises of cities and dwellers, and splices them together to make something you never thought of, but now need anyway. Porest is part-voyeuristic, part-exhibitionist, and part tribal dance, this third Porest record finds a groove that almost smacks of the eternal. Isn't that what cut-ups do, endlessly find the holy in the ordinary?
