I missed out on Wilderness' first album which was self-titled and released last year. Doesn't really sound like Vessel States is far removed from what the foursome from Baltimore Maryland was doing back then. They take a huge influence from Lungfish with regards to some pretty simple textured melodies with quite a monotone voice over top. Tracks don't really surprise and neither does the album. Instead the music seems to trod on for quite sometime before things change ever so slightly. I actually found Vessel States to be quite hypnotizing with it's steady rhythms and metronomic qualities. Wilderness isn't about to change the landscape of indie music. Instead, they have a favorite band and they like to emulate them and improve on what Lungfish has done before them. Wilderness is a step forward from what Lungfish has been doing. Vessel States will annoy many and delight a few.
