Chas Smith touches on the key elements of great ambient sound; mystical ascent and its opposite, the murky trip spiral downward. This three song exploration has both. While the first track is the hopeful journey made audible, like an expansion of the scene in 2001 where Bowman transcends his humanity and becomes something new, the second track is more like Eraserhead's industrial dread; there is still hope behind the cloud-splitting and the thunder-echo, yet there is the sense of danger that makes this piece unsettling.
With the third and final song, relief is provided, with bright tones majestic resolution. Descent is a trip, but stay sober; you'll need to be to let everything offered in.
