Believe the hype. Precious Bryant is the real thing, a hard living, soulful singer and guitarist whose slightly surprising finger picking and off-rhythm blues will assure the listener that they are in the presence of greatness. Her raw lyrics and jagged playing are genuine and moving. She infuses the time-worn "When The Saints Go Marching In" with renewed power. And it isn't the novelty of a woman singing like Robert Johnson on the draining "Wadn't I Scared" and "Don't Let The Devil Ride" that gives one chills: few blues singers of either gender dig so deep, and of course that is saying something. Recorded in a friend's living room not far from her trailer in rural Georgia, this is as good a country blues record as you'll find by a living blues artist.
