Faktion is a new emo band from Texas that is finely polished. They don't really add much to the whole genre but they do have a good sound and it is indeed polished nicely with the production of Brett Hestla and Justin Thomas. The songs on Faktion seem a little too predictable though for full enjoyment to ensue. One trick they use that I'm not sure has been done in emo is a full-on guitar solo on "Maybe". Impressive playing. Ryan Gibbs vocals have a bit of a Brian Molko (Placebo) feel to it. He is a very good vocalist. And I know I'm getting old but I almost puked on "Distance". Power ballads just aren't what they used to be. Oh well, I'm sure the emo kids will jump at this band. They do every emo trick in the book and have that shiny luster that adds to their promotional potential. I am still surprised that Roadrunner would have signed this band. Regardless, once Faktion steps out and does something a little more original we could see a potent band here.
