Although not much can be said about seminal punkers The Clash, Epic has manage to get the last word in on the influential band. A live testament of the power Joe Strummer, Mick Jones and company could pump out in a live setting. Never having released a live album Epic saw fit that it should be done as all the bootlegs of legendary performances have been circulated. This album was not all taken from the same concert, they were taken from live shows between 1978 and 1982 but it is put together so well that you wouldn't know. One thing this does is show that The Clash was one of the most consistent live acts ever. Some of the venues include Bonds Int. Casino, New York, Victoria Park, London, Shea Stadium, The Orpheum in Boston just to mention a few. This chapter can be successfully closed now.

Where would this world be without The Clash? If being known as the 'only band that matters' was enough, The Clash are also known for their explosive and unpredictable live shows. Topper was a drum machine that wouldn't stop beating his kit until your jaw was on the floor. Paul with his style and twitch was the bass player that wasn't to be messed with. Mick Jones had the lovely voice but the intensity on stage to make you run home crying. And then there was Joe, with his politically poetic lyrics and amazing charisma and stage presence. Together, these four members gelled together to create one of the best (if not the best) live shows ever seen. "From Here to Eternity" is a collection of live sogns put together to sound like the best live show ever played before a crowd. The band opens with the high octane song "Complete Control" and they never let up after it. What I like about The Clash live is that they take a song and play it in a different (and often better) way. Take for instance "Guns of Brixton". A classic, no doubts to that, but when you hear that drum beat kick in and Mick Jones constant soloing, you'll never look at the song the same way again. Mikey Dread lends a hand in the shows with the very addictive “Armagideon Time”. The band also does lots of improvisation on stage (especially Joe). This can be seen in the white-boy hip-hop song "The Magnificent Seven", the incredible reggae stylings of "(White Man) in Hammersmith Palais", and in the excellent cover of "I Fought the Law". Though songs like "City of the Dead" have only a short lasting appeal, the fantastic live show these guys put on makes up for these short comings. The band closes with the incredible and emotional "Straight to Hell" where Joe gives possibly his best vocal performance ever recorded. The world will never be the same because of The Clash.
