Gricer - Gricer
Lead by guitarist David Maleed, Gricer explores silences as another powerful sound in their repertoire. While the main melodic theme is minimalist, there are free improv and quiet lines that deepen the set. "Trumpet" flirts with mid-70's fusion, while "Tiles" and "Semiconductor Archive or Longtone" recall the sound explorations of Lee Ranaldo or Henry Kaiser. "Tonic" offers light and open space. Horn player Jay Phelps provides added suspense of several cuts.
The cross-pollination of free improv and minimalist ambient has been a good one. Gricer is at the top the list.
