Neil Young probably has the greatest catalog of ever in terms of having a song to fit any mood. When mellow, he could bust out some gorgeous ballads; if he was pissed off, he had plenty of cathartic jams to bite into. A lot of people compared Throttlerod's debut record an appearance of the new Crazy Horse. This second record confounds the moods of the expectant by becoming the new Blue Cheer. Now a trio, the band tightens up sound but ups the wattage in a ballsy display of not trying to copy what worked before. With the exception of the lame "Stand Em Up, " as blatant a bid for the pop-punk dollar as they've done, the rest of the record pounds with arena rock frenzy and crunching sludge tempos. "Prize Fighter" and "Big Name" will be played over and over all summer by those that know.
