Damn, I'm glad The Appleseed Cast are back. I had heard breakup rumors after their tour for Two Conversations but apparently it was short-lived. Probably due to the demise of their label Tiger Style. Anyway, it's 2006, 3 years after the awesome Two Conversations and The Appleseed Cast is releasing Peregrine, their first album for The Militia Group. This album takes off nicely where the last one left off, playing with textures and often noisy music but almost always melodic. The album opens with a 4 minute instrumental ("Ceremony") that really sets the mood for the album. I've heard so many people dismiss The Appleseed Cast as emo and if you could possibly just sit down with ANY of their albums you would instantly know that these guys are so far removed from emo. I've heard their music compared to Radiohead and that would probably be a fair comparison. I even heard a big Cure influence on "Sunlit Ascending". The sonics that come across on Peregrine are instantly likeable for their sheer beauty. "Woodland Hunter (Part 1)" is clever. Lo-fi to start and then just over a minute in they kick it in. "An Orange And A Blue" is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. Trust me, give it a chance and you will fall for this band. The Appleseed Cast is a band that has to be noticed. You have to pay attention to these boys from Kansas. It is amazing music that really transcends genres.
