Detour Allure is a sunny pop album. Let that be known. If you don't like sun shining on your pop music then Charlemagne isn't for you. Carl Johns is the man behind the Charlemagne front. The harmonies on the album really are quite pleasant. They sound like a cross between Simon and Garfunkel with My Morning Jacket. The songs are wholesome and catchy and yet still have sweetness. Problem is, I can only take so much sweet at any given time. In order to impress me you have to be able to be diverse. This collection is close but needs a little more variety. There is no denying that Carl Johns is a great songwriter. I think he just needs to team up with a few other people that would provide some of that variety with songwriting. I'd pull a couple tracks like "Greyhound" off of the album for a iPod mix.
