Wolf Eyes - Burned Mind
To listen to Wolf Eyes is to know you've been cheated. The violence of their noise is so visceral and honest, oddly human, that it makes some of the heavyweights in the field like Whitehouse seem like posers. Burned Mind is bleak and horrific, and it is a miracle to see it on Sub Pop, which hasn't been known for risk in the last decade. Truly scarring and despairing tracks like "Urine Burn" Rattlenakeshake" and "Burned Mind" take even GG Allin's ideas to a logical sonic conclusion. The last track, "Black Vomit", rocks with such dour finality, up there with Plastic Ono Band's "My Mummy's Dead" for final song fuck-you's. Listen to this while holding on to someone, to make sure someone else is there.
