RecommendJapan has never stopped flying the freak flag. Their contribution to Psychedelic Rock/Noise is well-documented; paper and pen need to be put in motion to chronicle Japanese artist's trippy additions to Hip-Hop. Here, DJ's Azzurro and Hashim B. dig into some deep grooves that explore hip-hop potential in everything from Dub to Brazilian dance. This mix never lets up, through tempo shifts, different MC's and instrumentation. Standout tracks include the fat bass tune "Angel Beat" the poetic and angry "Lowclassconspiracy", and the wild "New Rose Hotel", which features Indian samples and dance breakdowns. "Soul Spirits" is as sweet as its title; "Jimbocho Doowop" recalls both the 50's and the way distant future. More please.
