Bluetip - Post Mortem Anthem
Bluetip has been a Dischord staple ever since their Ohio 7 that came out in 1995. Post Mortem Anthem marks their fourth and final full-length album for the label. It contains 5 previously released tracks and 5 that before now were unavailable. For any Bluetip fan this album will be a given. Their fans are the type that scoop anything that a band does. But for the newly acquainted, is there anything here for them? The thing with Post Mortem Anthem is that it sounds like a completely thought out album even though the songs were written and recorded over a 6 year span. And their discards are almost better than their album material. So why wouldn’t they just extend the length of their other albums to include these great tracks? I can’t answer that but I will tell you that Post Mortem Anthem is as essential a Bluetip album as you can get. 2000’s Polymer may have a bit of an edge on it but if you enjoy one there is no reason why you wouldn’t enjoy the other. Let’s hope that Bluetip thinks twice about packing it in. They are a very talented group of musicians that just a bit different than all the other post-punk out there.
