Blockhead returns after the ill received Ninja Tune debut Music By Cavelight with their sophomore effort Downtown Science. Now this is the way you do it folks. After listening to this album many times (due to a hectic schedule and no time to write reviews) I have come to love Downtown Science. I missed out on Tony Simon's first album but if it was anything like this album then it does take some time to warm up to. The beats are completely obvious and the samples and such are a little left-field but it all seems to work. This is a whole package as the samples seem to take a them throughout. He tends to speed his samples up slightly too so that the people's voices are a little higher pitched than they normally would be. At first it's annoying but then you come to take it as novelty. But samples aside, the true brilliance of Blockhead is the beats. This package also comes with a DVD that contains the entire first album with three different visual choices to guide you through the album. If you have the time, check it out. It's worthwhile.
