Bad Astronaut is Lagwagon's Joey Cape's side project with a bunch of his buddies from other reputable bands such as Swingin' Utters, Mad Caddies, and Nerf Herder. Don't expect the hard driving sounds of Pennywise to pummel your eardrums as Bad Astronaut kicks back a bit and even contains little piano and vocal interludes ("Quiet" and "500 Miles" opens with Joey longfully singing with an acoustic guitar backing hime, it kicks in though). The album still rocks in it's own way in many tracks like "Grey Suits" and album opener "Greg's Estate". The band even picks some left field covers to do like Hedy West's "500 Miles," and Elliot Smith's "Needle In The Hay." Joey Cape proves that he is a lot more than the nasal singing of Pennywise. Bad Astronaut injects punk with a bit more melody than we are used to, and it works. Marketed as an ep but with 10 tracks it provides a great listen.
