P:ano - Brigadoon
Brigadoon is my first exposure to Vancouver-based group P:ano. They have been around for a little while with Brigadoon being the group's third album to date. It is also their first for the Vancouver label Mint. Now I can't say that this album made me a fan. I couldn't decide if I was pleasantly pleased or slightly annoyed by their cute songs. They have a bit of a cabaret style going on with many of their tracks like "The True Light".
There are more than a couple times where songs on Brigadoon remind a lot of Magnetic Fields: "Heavens" is a perfect synth pop example of this similarity. While P:ano never gets as heavy as Pavement it does have some similarities as well. Not my favorite band and I'm sure that they would annoy a lot of people. High on the cute factor though.
