Tossers frontman T. Duggins has never been shy about showing how the whiskey takes ragged hold of his voice. That is why there is major daring in the opening track of his first solo record. Recorded live, "I Wish I Was Back In Liverpool" celebrates every bum note, and every transcendent connection with his audience. No mere rip off of The Pogues or Flogging Molly, The Tossers blend Irish music with abrasive rock with their own ballsy glory. Duggins here covers songs that the Tossers have done prior, "Goodnioght", "Children's Potential", as well as Dylan's :Boots of Spanish Leather" and the old warhorse "Goodnight Irene", here re-imagined in a gorgeous, stunningly sad take. There is even as Shane MacGowan? cover, "Broad Majestic Shannon." Since for the most part Duggins is backed by the Tossers here, it is hard to call this a solo record. But the sloppy defiant power of Duggins voice is here up front more than ever, with intense results.
