Authority Zero is an Arizona based punk band that mixes up the styles of agro-punk like Pennywise and the reggae tinged styles of 311 and Operation Ivy. Their debut album A Passage In Time is a strong album albeit not terribly original. Vocalist Jason DeVore has a very powerful voice that handles all their style changes quite easily. The rest of the band proves to be very tight. On most of the songs on A Passage In Time, Authority Zero get going fast and furious sort of like Bad Religion but then the track “One More Minute could easily be a 311 track with is reggae inspired backbeat. This group is an interesting blend of styles and for the most part they seem to work. There weren’t any moments when I was awestruck at the band’s originality but their punk mastery is obvious. It may just be enough to get Authority Zero some recognition but ultimately A Passage in Time may just drop by the wayside with all the other similar bands.
