Just when you think you have Victory records sorted out they throw a curve ball in with this Pogues revivalist band. The label took a chance on world music and now they are taking a chance on good Irish punk. Yes, the Tossers are good. They've been around the block with 4 previous full-lengths under their belts, The Valley of the Shadow of Death is their first for the Victory label. So after that many years at it you can't accuse The Tossers of copying such bands as Flogging Molly or Dropkick Murphys. Instead it should be the other way around. The bands command of the traditional instruments is important in the execution of these songs. This is a great introduction to a very talented band. While this music doesn't sound all that unique today, The Tossers do have a sense of fun. There was a Canadian band called The Mahones that had a similar sound and to watch them live was a blast. I would imagine a Tossers' show would be a drunk fest as well.
